Grain Fed Meat

I recently had someone ask me if it is safe for me to eat grain fed meat since the packaging doesn't specify what grains the animal eats. I had to stop and wonder, because in all of my research, I have never found anything talking about it. I don't know the answer to that question. I never even thought about it.

So my question for you today is if anyone knows if grain fed meat is safe for a gluten free diet. Please leave a comment and tell me your thoughts on this!

Hey Tiffany — yes, grain fed beef is fine, but grass fed beef or bison is usually healthier and more humane (long story on all that). Grass fed is also higher in omega-3s, which are good.

I don't see why there would be a problem with grain fed meat since the animal uses the gluten, there is no gluten in meat, how could there be?

I would also say that grass fed meat is much more delicious, apart from the fact that it is more healthy.

I've heard that the omega ratio is really bad in grain fed meat(as Melissa stated) and too much omega 6 causes more infections, I think this is something that is important for celiacs, having a good omega ratio.

I eat a lot of fish, grass fed meat, and also avoid using too much vegetable oils because of the omega ratio. I'm never sick when eating like this, so I think it works.

Thanks for the info!

I always believe that you are what you eat, so I just figured it applies to cows too! If they eat grains that are glutenous, I thought it might be possible that it affects the muscle tissue. I'm glad it doesnt, though!

I agree that grass fed is much healthier and more delicious, but sometimes in the store, I grab what's on sale as opposed to paying attention to what it was fed :)

You are all so smart!!

That was a very interesting question. I guess since meat has no gluten it is ok.

Good question and I was glad to read the responses. While I prefer the grass fed beef, this really got my noodle going! Kind of like when I realized I had been stirring my coffee with Wheat Fettucine...

I will never in a million years TOUCH grain-fed red meats! They are SO unhealthy, live a very inhumane lifestyle and who knows what they are actually eating! Grass-fed red meats are some of the healthiest foods on the planet!

You know I have recently became friends with another Celiac sufferer; we talk alot about Celiac and our diets. One day we came across this in one of our many Celiac conversations; Her and I both have a problem with protien food causing the same effects of gluten intake. We started asking around and you would be suprised on how many people in the Celiac world have a problem with meats; But I do have to say that I have searched and searched to see if it related and have found nothing.
